Shirley L. Davis Skinner, A.K.A. Mom, Grandma and GG, went to be with her Lord on July 7, 2014 at her residence in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was 78 years of age. Shirley was the daughter of Eva C. Smith Davis and Howard W. Davis. She was born in Cadillac, Michigan on February 19, 1936. She has one brother, Harold D. Davis of Colorado. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James (Jim) W. Skinner, Sr. Shirley graduated from High School in 1955 in Hillsdale MI, as Mrs. James Skinner and promptly moved to Key West, FL , to become a Navy wife. As a Navy wife, Shirley assisted in making a home in Florida, Idaho, Michigan and South Carolina. Jim and Shirley retired in 1996 in South Carolina. After they retired, Jim and Shirley traveled the country working with several church building projects. Shirley was a licensed cosmetologist while living in South Carolina. She also served as the organist or pianist for the churches they attended. She enjoyed music, crafts, singing and sewing. Shirley especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was happiest when she was around her family. Shirley was a member of General Federation of Women's Club. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Las Cruces Shirley moved to Las Cruces with her husband in 1999, when Calvary Baptist Church called them to come help with building the new Preschool/Children's Wing. It was an exciting time for them, as they learned to love the Rio Grande Valley area. Any given day she would tell anyone that her greatest achievements were her children, grandchildren, and later her great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all. Shirley is survived by her children James Skinner, Jr. (Patricia) of Saucier, MS, Deborah Hart (Michael) of Las Cruces, Danial Skinner of Goose Creek, SC, and Steven Skinner (Lillian) of Moncks Corner, SC. She also leaves 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, along with many nephews, nieces and cousins. Shirley was also preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter (Jennifer), a great granddaughter (Eve). A celebration of life will be held for her at a later date at Calvary Baptist Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico. PDF Printable Version
