Sigrid Hough, 84, of Las Cruces, NM entered eternal life on October 2, 2012, at home in the presence of her loving family and friends. She was born in Zerbst/Anhalt, Germany on March 17, 1928 to the late Alfred and Meta Wisniewski. She was the younger of two children. Sigrid, a slender blonde German fraulein arrived in America in 1947, as a GI bride. Eight other war brides were among the plane's passengers and because she spoke English well, she was chosen as interpreter for the lot. On September 30, 1947 Sigrid married the love of her life, Harold Hough in Lancaster, Wisconsin. In 1957 they relocated to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sigrid had many passions in life which were passed down with gentle guidance and patience to her children. Her home was frequently filled with German music and dancing. She was a great cook and enjoyed sharing with those that entered her home as well as the many neighborhood friends. She shared her excellent cooking at "Sigrid's German Restaurant" for a brief time in Las Cruces. She loved to crochet and was taught the art of rug-making from a well-known Hungarian rug weaver at an early age. Also, beginning at an early age in Munich, Germany, Sigrid and her parents raised Pekingese as a hobby. Her love for dogs (and all animals) remained the same the rest of her life. She always had a "peke" by her side. Sigrid is survived by her children, daughter, Etta of Las Cruces, son, Alfred (Freddy) and wife Nila Hough of Siloam Springs, AR and daughter, Doris, of the home, who had the privilege and honor to care for her mom every day for many wonderful years of her life. Grandchildren, Lee McGuire, (Dee), Jason, Bryan and Shawn Hough. Great grandchildren, Ella, Mia, Olivia, Zachary and Gabriel Hough. Sister-in-law, Ingrid Wisniewski, nieces and nephews, Kerstin, Detlev and Silvia Wisniewski and great nephew, Sasha Wisniewski of Germany. And her special Pekingese, "Schatzie" and cat,"Othello". Sigrid was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Hough, her parents, Alfred and Meta Wisniewski and brother, Manfred Wisniewski. Sigrid's family would like to extend a special thank you to Myeesha, Stefanie, Josie and Amanda, her very special caregivers for always being there in the time of need. Also, to Leigh, Monica, Rene, Leslie and all the staff at Ambercare and to Dr. William Baker for the many years of care. A special thank you to her devoted and special friends Jeannine and Thierry Scott. Also, thank you to her neighbors and friends, Bob and Bonnie, the Dominguez family, the Lilly family, Justin and Minerva, Elsie Porter and Dr. Schumacher and staff. Per Sigrid's request cremation has taken place and private services will be held at a later date. Her family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Sigrid's name to Ambercare Hospice Foundation, c/o Michelle, 3870 Foothills Road, Las Cruces, NM 88011.Sigrid is loved and will be missed but her family finds comfort knowing she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
