Retired Major Stanley F. Sobczynski Sr., 92, of Las Cruces died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012. Major as he was fondly known was born Aug. 4, 1919 in Coatsesville, PA to John and Marie Sobczynski. He was retired from the US Army after more than 27 years of honorable service to our country during WW II and around the world. While in the service he was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster. Major also worked for the US Embassy in Poland and France. Major will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his son Stanley Sobczynski Jr., of Las Cruces; daughter Eleanor Shaham and husband Doug of North Carolina and by his grandchildren Stanley III, David, Margaret, Steven and Michael. Major was preceded in death by his loving wife of 25 years Margaret Sobczynski and by his daughter-in-law Lillian Sobczynski. A prayer vigil will be prayed at 10am on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Albert the Great Newman Center where his funeral mass to celebrate his life will follow at 10:30 am.
