Susan Lee Holder lost her battle with cancer on February 5, 2021 at home in Vado, NM surrounded by family at the age of 68. Susan was born December 27, 1952 in Clayton, NM to Jack and Mary Lewis. She grew up in Gladstone, NM and graduated from Clayton High School, Clayton, NM in 1970 riding the school bus 50 miles one way everyday to get to school. Horses were an early part of her life and remained a passion throughout her days. Susan married Terry Holder on October 1, 1975 in Clayton, NM at the Hotel Eklund. Suzi, as her friends and family called her, was living in Vado, NM for the past year to be closer to grandkids. Before that she retired to Pecos, TX where she and Terry ran the West of the Pecos Saddlery and Mercantile. She was the State 4-H Program Leader for Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. She had been the Interim Program Leader for 4-H and Youth Development at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. Susan was a 30-year veteran of the Extension System. Other positions held where Housing specialist, assistant Professor at NMSU, Cooking consultant, Nunn electric company, Lubbock, TX, along with many other positions in TX, NM and OK. Susan had a B.S. in Home Economics Education and Home Economics Business from Eastern New Mexico University, a M.S. in Housing, Consumer Sciences and Family Finance from Texas Tech University, and an Ed.D. in Educational Management and Development from New Mexico State University. Susan was preceded in death by her parents Mary Alice Lewis and Jack Lewis, Tucumcari, NM. Survived by: Husband Terry Holder of Pecos, TX, Children/Grandchildren: Son Chance Holder, his wife Ashlee and granddaughters Emilee and Ella Sue of Edgewood, TX.,Daughter Tiffany Santos, her husband Tomas and grandchildren Anna-Maria, Tommy, and Luna Lee. Grandson Clayton Jace Holder Sisters: Caren Lamb, husband Tim of Newkirk, NM, Becky Conley, husband Tom of Mississippi, Nephews: Beau Lamb and wife Melissa and children Kelsi, Colter, and Caden of Santa Rosa, NM., Shad Morgan and wife Lisa and children Madison and Mason of Jackson, MS. There will be a celebration of life at a date to be determined in Pecos, TX at the Methodist Church officiated by Beau Lamb and Jim Goodwin.
