Sylvia Marie Anchondo, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 after a 41-year battle against Type I Diabetes and its effects. She was 48. Sylvia was born in Las Cruces August 30, 1959, grew up in Anthony and Las Cruces, graduated from LCHS in 1977 and attended NMSU. Sylvia Marie Anchondo, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 after a 41-year battle against Type I Diabetes and its effects. She was 48. Sylvia was born in Las Cruces August 30, 1959, grew up in Anthony and Las Cruces, graduated from LCHS in 1977 and attended NMSU. She worked at various jobs thru out her life, most notably as a puppet- meister, teacher's aide and x-ray tech. She was also an expert on her disease process and gave more than one health caseworker a run for their money with her feisty zest for life. Her biggest accomplishment was staying alive. Sylvia is survived by her mother, Celia Geck; her brother Robert Anchondo; her sister Christina Anchondo and companion Lillian Ponce; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and by her father Armando Anchondo. Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents L.J. (Pepe) and Celestina Geck, and her uncle Richard Geck and her aunt Josephine Geck. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, June 9, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 PM. The funeral mass to celebrate Sylvia's life will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral with Fr. Andres Alava officiating. Rite of Committal will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Anthony, NM. Pallbearers will be Robert and Christina Anchondo, Lillian Ponce, Ramiro Saenz, Benny Flores and Blu Warren.
