Tabby L Theodore

March 27, 1923 — February 12, 2013

Theodore, Tabby, 89 passed away Feb. 12, 2013 at the Veterans Home in T or C, NM. Tabby was her grandmother's name. She attended 12 schools in four states before graduating with high grades in Math and Home Economics, subjects that would served her well in the future. Tabby had worked several years for SW Bell, and clearly remembers that day in (1941- Pearl Harbor Day) when only she and one other person were running the switchboard. Two years later she enlisted in the Marine Corps, and unconventional decision for a young woman at the time, but one which made her parents extremely proud. When asked why she chose the Marines, she responded, without hesitation, "Because the Marine Corps was the best!" Tabby trained as an aviation machinist in Norman, OK, and was then assigned to the engine overhaul section at Cherry Point Marine Base, NC. Later she was transferred to El Toro, CA allowing her to be closer to her ailing father. At this point, Tabby was assigned as a Marine Base Tailor, altering uniforms. In 2008 Tabby was on the "Honor Flight" taking veterans to visit the WW II Memorial Monument in Washington D.C. Tabby met and married George, a fellow Marine, in 1945, and they shared a loving partnership that lasted 46 years. After the war, Tabby went to school to become an Innkeeper and later became a trouble shooter/auditor for Holiday Inn, proving to any teenager that, yes math really is important!! Tabby and George had 2 children, Peter and Claudia. The couple was involved in night club, country club and restaurant management for many years, eventually settling in Santa Fe where George who was Greek and Claudia's husband Ernie a Swiss trained chef, co-owned the very popular Ernie's Restaurant, retiring in 1989. Tabby and George moved to Las Cruces where sadly, George, passed away in 1990. She is survived by her son Peter Theodore and wife Julia, son-in-law, Ernest Bolleter, adopted Sister Mary A. Garza, grandsons Ted Bolleter and wife Jo Ann and Tony Bolleter, 3 great-grandchildren EJ and Savannah Bolleter, Sarah Gonzales and husband Justin and by 1 great-great granddaughter Sophia Rose Gonzales. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Claudia Bolleter. Tabby will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at Getz Funeral Home. Tabby's remains will be laid to rest next to her beloved George at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 10:30 am with military honors. PDF Printable Version
