Ted G. Sanchez, 81, of Las Cruces, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007. He was born Dec. 23, 1925 in Alpine, TX to Bartolin Sanchez and Paz Galindo Sanchez. Ted was a veteran of the US Army where he served his country honorably during WW II as a PFC. While in the service of his country he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Army Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Victory medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He went on to graduate from Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX. He was also retired from KDBC Channel 4 El Paso, TX as a Broadcasting Engineer. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, a WW II historian and he had a love for woodworking. Ted will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Eliza Sanchez. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Bertha Sanchez of the family home; daughters Laura Herrera and husband George of Santa Fe, NM, Susan Alonzo and husband Gilbert of Chandler, AZ, Becky Benakis and husband Gus of Silver City, NM and Trish Sanchez of Las Cruces; six grandchildren who were his passion in life Patrick and Jaclyn Herrera, Alexander and Adam Alonzo, Ted and Christine Benakis; brother Manuel Sanchez and wife Inez of Alpine, TX; Also surviving him are sisters-in-law, brother-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 PM on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Ted's life will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 26, 2007 also at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. Rite of Committal will follow at the Immaculate Heart Columbarium with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E.
