Terry Giever sadly and unexpectedly passed away of a heart attack at age 58 at his home in Las Cruces, NM on February 17, 2016. Terry was born in Powell, Wyoming in 1957. His parents, John B. and Elizabeth Giever, lived in Norman, OK and years later made Las Cruces their home. Terry attended Mesilla Park Grade School, Zia Middle School, Las Cruces High, and graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor's degree in Finance. Terry was a very industrious man and started working odd jobs at a very young age. He was a paperboy, a bowling pin washer at the old bowling alley, and a bell boy at a local hotel. As a teenager and young adult in college he was a night auditor at the Holiday Inn and started buying and selling real-estate. After graduating from NMSU he moved to Ruidoso, NM where he built, managed and sold condominiums. He moved back to Las Cruces and started a construction company by the name of WESTCO Builders. Terry opened a custom cabinet shop in Mesilla Park, and taught business classes at the Dona Ana Community College. He was a true entrepreneur and operated several businesses over his lifetime including, Morrows Nut and Candy House in the Mesilla Valley Mall, as well as a jewelry and fine art store, Rio De Oro, which started in Old Mesilla, before moving into the mall as well. Terry loved and was very proud of his daughter Staci and his two grandsons, Gracin and Gavin. They were the light of his life and he always treasured time with them. Terry's hobbies included collecting coins, stamps, guns, buying and selling art, traveling, listening to music, and taking care of his dogs: Bell, Scout, Daisy, Viper, and Turbo. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, keeping up with current affairs, discussing ideas, joking around, and enjoying a good steak. There was not a person he met that he did not call his friend. Terry touched the lives of many people with his smile, friendship, generosity, and sense of humor. Although Terry now lives in heaven, he will always live on in our hearts. Terry is survived by his loving daughter Staci Poe, and her husband Robert, grandsons Gracin and Gavin Poe, his brothers John C. Giever, and Dennis Giever, Liz and Barbara Kuchler, friend and companion Michele Williams and his birth mother Joan Koehler. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Giever. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of his life on Saturday, February 27th, 2016, at 10am at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, located at 1240 S. Espina St., Las Cruces, NM 88001. PDF Printable Version
