Thelma Whalen went to be with her LORD and savior Jesus Christ on March 18, 2022. She was born in 1951 in Santa Fe, NM. She attended Santa Fe High School then continued her education at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM where she got her Bachelors Degree in Math. She taught math for five years in Santa Rosa, NM then transferred to Carlsbad, NM schools and taught math for three years. Her last workplace was New Mexico State University where she retired in 2016 after 30 years of service culminating with the title Associate Administrative Assistant within Bio-Security & Food Safety. Thelma, a homebody, loved the LORD, her family, and her pets, as well as cooking and gardening. She was an avid supporter of veterans. In 1995 she married Bruce Whalen, whom she was a beloved Proverbs 31:10-31 wife to. Her dad, Rodolfo Montiel, preceded her in death along with her grandparents and other relatives. She is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Whalen of Indiana; her mother, Priscilla Montiel; her sisters Dolly Montiel and Olivia Montiel of El Paso, TX. Services will be private and interment will be in the military section at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Las Cruces, NM.
