Theodore E. (Ted) Theisen, 88, died at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces New Mexico on April 9, 2015. Ted was born August 30, 1926 in Schenectady, New York to Mildred Dingman Theisen and Theodore Theisen. Ted served in the US Navy from 1943 until 1946 and was stationed on a ship in the South Pacific. He met his wife, the late Erna Bayliss Theisen, when they were both 12 years old. They married in 1946, then worked and raised their family in the Albany/Schenectady New York Capital District. In 1992 the couple retired to Las Cruces at the urging of his physician due to health issues. Ted thrived in the New Mexico sunshine and his health improved significantly for many years. He loved spending his time golfing with his friends at the NMSU Golf Course, working outside in his cactus garden, and spending time with his grandchildren. Despite his less-than-robust health, Ted was a devoted husband who cared for his wife until her death from Alzheimer's disease in 2010. Ted is survived by daughter Katie and grandchildren Emily and Theodore IV of Las Cruces, his caretakers in his final illness; Theodore III of Chestertown, NY; Harry L. and Lynn Apkarian Theisen of Missouri City, TX; Conni Theisen Brown and Steve Brown of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Mark Theisen and Kelly Theisen of Missouri City, TX; Madison Lewis of Schenectady, NY; Brian Lewis of Phoenix, AZ; and one great-grandson, Jordan Cole Wallace of Missouri City, TX. Other survivors are his brother-in-law George Winn and nephew Russ Winn and his wife Billie Hughes Winn, also of Las Cruces. The Theisen family thanks Harry Bass MD, Craig Cannon MD, Kim Miller DNP, and the staff of Memorial Medical Center for their compassionate and excellent care over the course of his illness. A private, family celebration of Ted's life is being planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mesilla Valley Hospice, which assisted in the care of Erna Theisen. Arrangements are by Getz Funeral Home, corner of Solano and Bowman Ave. in Las Cruces, NM. PDF Printable Version
