Theodore R. (Ted) Skibyak, 78, of Las Cruces, NM entered eternal life on February 13, 2011. He was born August 24, 1932 to Michael and Mary Skibyak in Detroit, MI. Ted grew up in Detroit, Michigan, graduated from De La Salle High School in 1952, received a BS in Chemistry from Wayne State University and pursued a MS in Geology. He worked for Chrysler Corp., moved to California to work with Lockheed and transferred to Las Cruces in 1965. He retired from Kmart in 1998. He was a member of Our Lady of Health Catholic Church and was an active volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was known as "Tenderfoot Ted" in the Single Action Shooters Society participating in many activities statewide. He was a fan of good stories, science fiction and good food. He will be remembered as a strong, stoic and occasionally stubborn man who loved his family immensely. During his years he enjoyed countless high school wrestling matches, volleyball and basketball games, track meets, band concerts, summer softball games, gun shows, and many county fairs. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was surrounded by family during his last days. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Lou, his children, Mike and wife Roz of Las Cruces, Ted and wife Lori of Rio Rancho, NM, Betsy and husband Dann Ojanen of Scottsdale, AZ, Sheila and husband Scott Miller of Amistad, NM and Brian and wife Lena of Espanola, NM and 11 grandchildren, Tristen, Connie, Gaylen, TJ, Michelle, Bridgette, Brandon, Marissa, Krista, Caitlin and Victoria. Ted was preceded in death by two brothers who died in infancy A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church on Friday February 18, 2011 at 2:00 pm.
