Thomas Wayne (Tom) Whatley, 62, of Las Cruces, died November 02, 2021. Mr. Whatley was born January 24, 1959 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Robert Whatley and Anita (Padilla) Martinez. He attended Sandia High School where he played outstanding baseball and began a decades-long habit of making lasting impressions and friendships wherever he went. He was a humble but proud veteran of the US Coast Guard and US Army. He was an avid golfer, a proud volleyball and track "Dad", an awesome grandpa, a devoted family man who loved to travel, a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears, and a fierce advocate for our US military veterans, children, and private property rights. He loved the beach and good country music, and for love of the game, baseball. He was a passionate, spirited human who always strived to make everything better. He spent years actively serving the Las Cruces community as a six-time Chairman and thirteen-year Member of the City of Las Cruces 4th of July Committee, and in various roles involving such other significant projects as Veterans Memorial Park, Gus Macker Tournament, the Whole Enchilada Fiesta Committee, NMSU Aggies, and 911 Call Center. Tom's was an accomplished multi-business owner throughout his years in Las Cruces, but believed he found his true calling as a real estate broker 15 years ago. He had a keen business acumen but also thrived as an impactful leader, and was a proud graduate of the 1998 class of Leadership New Mexico. He served on numerous governing Boards for professional organizations including National Association of REALTORS
