Tina Reeves passed away at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces on April 17, 2017 at the age of 58. She is survived by her aunt, Barbara Faber of Chicago, Ill. Tina is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Billy Dean Reeves and Phyllis Joan Reeves of Las Cruces, aunt and uncle, Barney and Jean Reeves of Las Cruces, and her uncle Dean Faber of Chicago, Ill. Tina was born November 27, 1958 in Evanston, Ill. After moving to Las Cruces at their age of eight, she attended Mayfield High School, later moving to Albuquerque receiving her BFA in 1981 from UNM. Tina received a California Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CSUN in 2007. Most recently, Tina worked for the Las Cruces Public School District as a second grade art teacher at both Valley View and Desert Hills Elementary Schools. Prior to working with LCPS, she was a 2 nd grade teacher at J Paul Taylor Academy, Charter School. She also worked at Family Pride Foundation as a project coordinator and Mesilla Valley Hospice as a grant and technical writer. She loved teaching and exploring art with children and had a 12 year career as a property master for film and television in Los Angeles, in addition to teaching for 9 years in public charter schools in California. She maintained certification from the California Reading and Literacy Project Institute and held a level 2 Professional K-8 Elementary license with endorsement for in Visual Arts. Locals may remember Tina for her work at the Mesilla Valley Store sharing her enthusiasm and amazing artwork with patrons. Tina was the consummate artist and spent many years working with students on creating and learning through art. Tina had a great love of pets and her canines Mable and Stella as well as felines Atticus and Otis have found loving homes with wonderful amazing friends. A celebration of life will be held toward the end of June of 2017, date to be announced. Special mention and thanks go out to Mesilla Valley Hospice for their dedication and love of Tina.
