In the presence of his family, Treaver C. Ashby Jr. passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the Mesilla Valley Hospice. Mr. Ashby, 83, was a long-time resident of Las Cruces, NM and was born in Lockney, Texas on January 11, 1930. He was married to the love of his life, Lillie Mae Jameson, in Clovis, NM on April 17, 1954. They had two children: Terri and Treaver III. While attending college at Eastern New Mexico University, Mr. Ashby served in the New Mexico National Guard at the rank of Sergeant First Class and worked as a finish carpenter. In 1953, Mr. Ashby graduated from ENMU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics. Following graduation, he was employed at Convair in San Diego, CA. Subsequently, he worked for the American Car and Foundry in Albuquerque, NM. In 1960, Mr. Ashby accepted a civil service position at White Sands Missile Range in the Instrumentation Directorate. After 33 years of service with the Federal Government, Mr. Ashby worked 9 years as an Engineering Consultant with NewTec at Holloman Air Force Base. Mr. Ashby was a member of the University United Methodist Church and was involved in numerous community based organizations including the New Mexico Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, Toastmasters and the American Red Cross. Mr. Ashby was skilled in woodworking, fabrication and mechanics. He also was very proud to have obtained his private pilot license and certification as an aircraft mechanic. Mr. Ashby piloted numerous airplanes that he owned in partnership with his co-workers and good friends. Mr. Ashby was preceded in death by his father Treaver C. Ashby Sr., his mother Daisy D. Ashby, and his sister Billy Ruth Crews. He is survived by his wife Lillie M. Ashby, his daughter Terri Ashby Cravens (Jim), his son Treaver C. Ashby III (Chris) and his grandchildren James R. Cravens, Turner J. Ashby and Katelin D. Ashby. A visitation with the family will be held at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, January 6, 2014. Funeral services, lead by Reverend Randall W. Partin, will be held at the University United Methodist Church at 2000 S. Locust, St., Las Cruces, NM, at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Graveside Services will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 W. Picacho Ave., Las Cruces, NM. Pallbearers will be James Cravens, Turner Ashby, Austin Powell, Jim Cravens, Terri Cravens, Treaver Ashby. Honorary pallbearers are Hank Stevenson, David Amaral, Mike Fishburn and Jim Velia.
