Velma "Babe" Shropshire, 67, of Las Cruces, passed away peacefully at home, Saturday March 31, 2007 after a 6-month battle with cancer. She was born June 22, 1939 in Santa Fe, NM to Richard Galloway and Cordie Fuqua. She grew up in Roswell, NM and was a Las Cruces resident for the past 40 years. Velma "Babe" Shropshire, 67, of Las Cruces, passed away peacefully at home, Saturday March 31, 2007 after a 6-month battle with cancer. She was born June 22, 1939 in Santa Fe, NM to Richard Galloway and Cordie Fuqua. She grew up in Roswell, NM and was a Las Cruces resident for the past 40 years. She enjoyed quilting, painting, and playing bridge. Velma's passion was to take care of her loving family and the family home. Velma will be forever deeply missed by all her family and many friends who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband Marion Shropshire of the family home, three daughters, Janet Jiron, of Mansfield, TX, Cindy Short, and Karen Short of Albuquerque, NM; two sons, David Shropshire, of Tucson, AZ, Steven Shropshire of Los Angeles, CA, one sister, Bea Witcher of Hobbs, NM; one brother, Richard Galloway of Las Cruces and 7 grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by her daughter Kelly Short. An informal gathering of Velma's friends and family will be held on Friday April 6, 2007 from 4-6 PM at Getz Funeral Home. Friends are asked to come pay their respects during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice at 299 E.
