Margaret Veronica Garcia, age 53, of Alamogordo, died Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque. Veronica was born in El Paso, Texas, on July 28, 1953, to Margarito and Valentina Evaro, but grew up in La Mesa, New Mexico. Veronica graduated from Gadsden High School where she was a Pantherette. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Louie Garcia, and soon moved with him to Austin, Texas, where Louie was stationed in the Air Force. In time, they were transferred to Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo where Louie finished out his Air Force career and they raised their children. Veronica started working at Wal-Mart in Alamogordo when the store opened, working there until the time of her death and building many close and lasting friendships. Veronica loved animals and was often teased by her family about having her own personal menagerie. She had everything from iguanas to gerbils (named Stuart and Little) to cockatiels to a hedgehog. Her special favorite, however, is a spoiled brat boxer named Carla that thinks she's people. Her favorite animal was the giraffe and it was a given that at any gift-giving occasion, she would receive at least one giraffe of some shape, size or form. She was a great collector and collected everything from water globes to Christmas ornaments to Super Balls. Veronica is survived by her husband of 35 years, Louie Garcia; son Stephen Garcia of the family home; and daughters Stephanie Garcia and her son, Gabriel Moya, of Alamogordo and Jennifer Reyes and her husband, Santos, and their children Leo, Sierra and Noah, of Tucson, Arizona. Also surviving are two brothers, Edward Evaro and wife Lydia and their son, Robin, of Las Cruces and Christopher Evaro of Las Cruces; and sister Elvia Richardson and her son, Dusty, also of Las Cruces. An infant daughter, April, preceded Veronica in death. Her parents and a brother, Arturo Evaro, also precede her in death. The family invites friends to join them in the visitation, which will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at San Jose Catholic Church, 353 Josephine Street, in La Mesa. The Prayer Vigil will follow at 7:00 p.m. Friends are also invited to join in celebrating the Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at San Jose Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Jose Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Alamogordo. Serving as casket bearers are Dusty Richardson, Liu Kawasaki Hingano, Randy Valenzuela, Gene Pedraza, Florentino Ruiz, Jr., and Mike Whitmire. Honorary bearers are Junior Hernandez, Gabriel Chonito Moya, Mar-Mar Garcia, Sierra Garcia, Noah Reyes, Robin Evaro, and her Wal-Mart Family. PDF Printable Version
