Vincent Francis Capozza born July 21, 1937, died at home on September 5, 2017. He was born to Julia Leo and was adopted by Joseph and Rose Capozza after being in foster care with the Capozza's for seven years. Vincent never knew the truth of his adoption until age 62. In his youth, he had a talent for anything mechanical, helping many of his friends with their cars, and maintaining the vehicles for the "family" business City Ice & Coal. He was driving at age 14 delivering ice when Joseph Capozza was ill and could not work. After obtaining a driver's license, he was emptying coal cars, delivering oil and ice as well as anything else that needed to be done. He dropped out of high school, stepping up when he was needed to work in the "family" business. He received his GED in 1981. He was "invited" into the Army in 1960 and was told less than 24 hours prior to reporting that he received a draft notice. He served 2 years active duty at Ft Bliss in Texas, working in Ordnance Depot and completed active duty as a Sergeant. Vinny married Joan Pudelka on October 20, 1962. They had a daughter, Mary Ann but unfortunately lost two infant sons. He had attended Henry Abbott Tech School in the evening to be an electrician, but the business intervened and he did not complete his schooling. Vincent declined to buy the ice and oil business from the Capozza's not wanting anyone to have to do what he was made to. He worked in manufacturing until the plant moved, then as a maintenance man for Pope John Paul II Center for Healthcare in Danbury, CT for 18 years until his retirement. He and his wife moved to Las Cruces NM in 2002. In 2017, they sold their home to live at Good Samaritan Village in Las Cruces. He is survived by his wife Joan, daughter Mary Ann Capozza Best, son in law Mark Best and grand puppy China. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Vincent Capozza to Good Samaritan Village, Las Cruces NM. Arrangements are being provided by Getz Funeral Home. A memorial will be held at Good Samaritan at a later date. Inurnment will be at Fort Bliss with military honors. PDF Printable Version
