Virginia Matilda (Borden) Lines of Las Cruces passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 28th, 2022 at the residence of her youngest son, James, where she has resided for the past seven years. Preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, George, she has patiently continued doing God's work until the Lord saw fit to reunite them 33 years later. Virginia was born in Elmira, NY on January 26th, 1930 near the Finger Lakes region. She was the third of seven children of Arthur and Matilda Borden. Growing up on a farm provided her with a huge repertoire of hilarious stories that she loved to share with her five children, eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Since accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age she has served God faithfully in whatever capacity He placed her. At the age of 19, while a student at Biola Bible School, she was a counselor at Billy Graham's first large crusade in Los Angeles in 1949. She had a positive effect on so many lives through teaching Child Evangelism classes and hosting Wycliffe missionaries in her home. It is impossible to know the number of students her kind and compassionate personality influenced during a teaching career spanning more than 30 years in Las Cruces public schools. Although she will be missed dearly by many people, it is comforting to know that she took her children's advice and ran into the arms of Jesus when she heard Him call her name one last time. Services will be held at University Presbyterian Church at 5:00 pm on Friday, March 11th. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Gospel Rescue Mission of Las Cruces.
