Willard Kent Reynolds, 74 of Las Cruces, NM died Tuesday, November 15, at his home. He was born June 5, 1931in Center Point, Iowa to Orland and Lois Reynolds Olinger. "Coach" as he was fondly called, taught physical education and coached athletic teams for 30 years, beginning at Washington and Lucero Elementary, Alameda Jr. High, Vista and Sierra Middle Schools. After one year at Coe College, the family moved to Las Cruces in 1950. He interrupted his collage education to serve in the US Navy aboard the USS Repose, during the Korean Conflict. He Graduated from NMSU in 1956. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys fan. His knowledge of sports enabled him to engage in many hours of conversation with his friends and family and loved card games. During the summers he spent many years building his cabin in Ruidoso and working at the racetrack. Puerto Penasco was a favorite meeting place with family and friends. His wife of 43 years, Mary Celeste; Two daughters, Patricia "Tish" Anshen and her husband Dave of Wilmington, Delaware; and Pamela Galley and her husband Bill of Bedford, Texas survive Kent. He adored his four grandchildren, Brian and Lauren Anshen, and Braden and Trevor Galley. One sister, Nancy Olinger Cleavenger of Yuma, Arizona also survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 21, 2005 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Turkot, Chaplain with Mesilla Valley Hospice officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 Montana Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88005 505-523-4700 or a cancer charity of your choice.
