Billy Bert Frederick was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma on October 31, 1931 and passed away in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on December 8, 2016 at the age of 85. Bert was born to Hazel Delana and James Edward Frederick, and was the third of four children. He attended college in Oklahoma before being drafted into the U.S. Army, Officer Candidacy School. After honorable discharge from the Army, Bert attended Baylor School of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. In 1962 he and his family moved to Las Cruces, where he joined the dental practice of Dr. Carver. Bert practiced dentistry in Las Cruces for 35 years, and was instrumental in bringing many new dentists to the Las Cruces area. His patients loved him, and often commented on his gentleness in treating them. Bert was a fellow in the American Academy of Dentistry, and was very active in the Lions Club. Golfing and deep sea fishing were his favorite recreational activities, and he made lifelong friends in both. In later years, Bert enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally, and was always looking forward to planning his next trip. Bert fulfilled a lifelong dream when he was able to walk the links at St. Andrews, Scotland. Bert was an avid student of life and people. He enjoyed trying new gardening techniques and building new structures out in his backyard. Whenever possible, his grandkids joined him in these activities, being as much help as their various ages allowed. Bert is survived by his wife, Ann Frederick, son Bert Frederick and daughter-in-law Lety, of Las Cruces, son Phil Frederick and daughter-in-law Debbie, of Houston, Texas, daughter Tish Frederick, of Albuquerque, and daughter Tina Frederick Lutz and son-in-law Mike, of Las Cruces, by his sister Jo Champion, and brothers Jay Frederick and Gayle Frederick. Bert is also survived by grandchildren Bill, Brittney, Deidras, Rebecca, Bryanna, Ridge, Bruce, Micaela and Catalina, and great-grandchildren Bentley, Landon, and Piper. Bert was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Jean Ridge Frederick, his parents, Hazel and James, and his brother, Duke Frederick. The celebration of Bert's life will be held 11 AM on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
