W.T. Johnson, 87, of Las Cruces, died Sunday, April 29, 2007. He was born Dec. 30, 1919 in Sherman, TX to Ahasuerurs and Bell Wright Johnson. W.T. was a veteran of the US Navy where he served his country honorably during WW II, while in the service he was awarded the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific-American Theatre Ribbons. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was a Mechanical Contractor and the owner-operator of W.T. Johnson Inc. W.T. was appointed chairman of the NM Pluming Board, by Governor Mechum, where he rewrote the Mechanic Code. A charter member of Jornada Masonic Lodge #70, AF&AM where he was one of the founders and a 2nd Master, as well as a member of the York Rite. A member and Past President, in 1956, of the Kiwanis Club where he actively participated in the Pioneer Days and founder of the United Way here in Las Cruces. W.T. was also one of the founders of Mesilla County Mental Health Association. He will be deeply missed by all his family and many friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by hi loving wife Ruby Johnson of the family home; son Russell A. Johnson and wife Colene of Santa Rosa, CA and his grandchildren Courtney and Derek. Brothers Lawrence and Carl Johnson and sisters Fannie Rouse and Loula Wood preceded W.T. in death. Memorial Services to celebrate his life will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev. Gorton Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Jornada Masonic Foundation or to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or to a charity of choice. PDF Printable Version
