Wardell Hanks

September 4, 1916 — February 28, 2013

Wardell Hanks, 96, a resident of Mesilla Park, NM passed peacefully on February 28, 2013. She was born on September 4, 1916 in Butler, Oklahoma to John and Laura Moore. She and her family moved to a farm in Chamberino, New Mexico where she attended school. It was there that she met and married Paul Hanks in 1933. They moved to their lifetime home on 190 Hanks Drive in Mesilla Park, that she and her husband built. They raised two children, Nan and Jess. Wardell was a member of and very active in the Mesilla Park Community Church. She was a very loving and kind mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hanks, son Dr. Jess Hanks and granddaughter Peggy Ritter. She is survived by her daughter, Nan Galter and her husband Morrie of Dallas, Texas, daughter-in-law Judith Hanks, (Dr. Jess Hanks, deceased) of Pearl River, New York; Grandsons Ron Ritter and his wife Tina of Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico, Don Ritter and his wife Kerry of Haslet, Texas, 4 Great Grandchildren Austin, Paul, Stephanie and Michelle; 4 Great Great Grandchildren, Logan, Sevy, Paige and Cole. Services will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 10:30 am with burial to follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
