Wilfred (Bill) Schumacher passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Bill was born to Alex and Katherine Schumacher on June 4, 1923, in Munjor, Kan. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines in World War II. Upon discharge, he married Melba Wright and graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in economics. He owned and operated University Ford Mazda in Las Cruces. He was a member of numerous civic organizations including Lion's Club, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and served on the vestry of St. James Episcopal Church and served on the boards of the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Mutual Building and Loan, Citizens Review Board and Memorial Medical Hospital. He was a parishioner of St. James Episcopal Church. His wife of 63 years, Melba; son, Dr. Bill Schumacher, and wife, Kay, daughter, Aileen Schumacher, and husband, Rick Blum, and grandchildren, Dr. Kyle Schumacher, and husband, Todd Harper, Jo, Nicky, and Kevin, survive him. Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church with burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Whit Harvey, Bill Nigh, Todd Harper, Andy Michnovicz, Claude Smith and Kent Bennett. The family wishes to thank caregiver Bernadette Ruiz and Mesilla Valley Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church. PDF Printable Version
