William Edmund Baker "Bill" 94 years of age died 9/25/13 at Mesilla Valley hospice with his family by his side. Bill was born 9/24/1919 in Dayton Ohio to Katherine R. Baker and Harold T. Baker. He was the middle child of older brother John T. Baker and younger sister Nancy R. Hamilton. Bill graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in chemical Engineering. He served in the Navy during World War II and then was a lifelong employee of the Standard Oil of Ohio (SOHIO) now known as British Petroleum. He was a project engineer for the start up for many petroleum processing plants, and was also on the design team for the Alaska Pipeline. Bill played in a band during his college years and enjoying music was a favorite activity his entire life. During his early-married years he and wife Jane participated and called many square dances. He tought his children how to play numerous musical instruments and owned his own full sized church organ. Bill also enjoyed camping and fishing with his family for many years. After retiring, Bill volunteered as the business manager for the First Baptist Church of Cleveland, Ohio. He recently enjoyed his many friends at the Hallmark, Village of Northrise and playing bridge. Throughout his life Bill's family was always his highest priority. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jane F. Baker, parents, and brother John T. Baker. He is survived by his son William R. (Theresa) Baker and daughter Allison B. (Fred) Wilson. He is also survived by his grand children Miranda M. Baker, Christopher R. Baker, Heather A. (Chris) Lugo, Isaiah E. (Pang) Baker, Erin E. (Dustin) Bierman. Bill has five great grand children Isaiah E. Jr, Kylee S., Gavin R, and Ming Baker, Madelynn F Bierman and expecting baby boy Lugo. Bill is also survived by his sister, Nancy, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Friday September 27, 2013 at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice. PDF Printable Version
