William J. Hickey, 73 of Las Cruces, NM died Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. Bill had served his country honorably and retired from the United States Army after 22 years of service. He had also retired from the public school system, teaching at Gadsden Middle School, Toadalina Jr. High School and Holy Cross Catholic School. Bill had a love for football; he was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Texas Longhorns as well as being a coach during his teaching years. He was a member of Mesilla Valley Search and Rescue and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who lived his life to the fullest, taking great joy and pride in being the best grandpa to his granddaughters. The fondest memories of Bill will be his colorful stories of his life experiences, his sharp memory and his quick wit as well as his generosity. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife Linda; two sons, Robert Hickey and his wife Davona of Roswell, NM and Victor Villalobos and his wife Shannon of Las Cruces, NM. One daughter Sandy Trevino of Las Cruces, NM. Also surviving Bill are three grandchildren, Alyssa Hickey, Kara Hickey, Breanna Hickey and one-step grandchild, Julie Rosenberg. Bill was preceded in death by his previous wife Florence in 1984 and his son Tim in 2000. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 6 PM on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at Getz Funeral Home where the Prayer Vigil will follow at 6 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10 AM on Monday, November 6, 2006 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr. John Anderson officiating. The Rite of Committal and burial with full military honors will be at 2:30 PM also on Monday, at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
