Winnie Mae Hawkins, 91, of Las Cruces died Sunday, July 30, 2006. She was born December 26, 1914 in Sand Hill, Texas to Lee and Bertha Elder. Winnie Mae collected stamps, coins and any other treasured mementos she could find. Winnie Mae Hawkins, 91, of Las Cruces died Sunday, July 30, 2006. She was born December 26, 1914 in Sand Hill, Texas to Lee and Bertha Elder. Winnie Mae collected stamps, coins and any other treasured mementos she could find. She had a passion for history, and was well known for her dedication to her University Church of Christ family and her detailed history of the Church of Christ in Las Cruces. Her joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hawkins will be deeply missed by all her family and friends who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Delbert Hawkins of the family home; sons Larry Hawkins and wife Kay of Las Cruces and Terry Hawkins and wife Roxa of Fairbanks, Alaska; brothers Everett Elder and wife Pum of Roswell, NM and Floyd Elder and wife Ellen of Albuquerque, NM; sisters Maidie Werner of Pittsburgh, PA and Dorothy Brinkley and husband Pat of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren Luke and wife Shauna, Seth, Mimi and husband Dan and Kellie and husband Bobby; great-grandchildren Paige, Kayleigh and Sydney. Also by many nieces and nephews. Her brother C.J. Elder preceded Winnie Mae in death. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday August 1, 2006 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services are at 1:00 PM on Wednesday August 2, 2006 at University Church of Christ with her grandsons-in-law Bobby Cullen and Dan Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of Winnie Mae's family and friends.
