Dr. Wolfgang Haese, M.D. left this planet very unexpectedly, Friday morning July 11, quietly in his sleep, just two days shy of his birthday. He was born in Dresden, formerly East Germany, on July 13, 1935. He escaped through the Berlin Wall under gunfire and went on to complete his medical studied at the Bernard Nocht Institute of Tropical Medicine, where he obtained a PHD Degree in Tropical Medicine. He started his pathology training at the University of Heidelberg and was sent to the United States on a fellowship to the University in Philadelphia. Upon returning to Germany he no longer liked the teaching style and decided to permanently move to the United States. He did his residencies in both Clinical and Anatomical Pathology at The John Hopkins University in Baltimore and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He was a Professor of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX where he created a new medical teaching course. He also received degrees in Hematology and Blood-banking at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Houston, TX where he later worked closely with Dr. Denton Cooley and went on to become the Director of Blood-banking. Through this experience he decided his mission was to help people and started a Family Practice in Sarasota, Florida and then Las Cruces, NM for the last 13 years. He was an avid classical music lover and studied each composer and each piece with great passion. Music was his life and so was art. He loved to paint medical illustrations and he was currently working on a pictorial Atlas of Tropical Medicine. His wife, Fredericka Haese will now complete for publication the Atlas of his hand drawn, hand painted, and hand written descriptions that combine his art with his scientific medical research. He loved to travel with his wife and son and explore the world. He went on many medical missionary missions, often accompanied by his family, to help the poor and people in hard to reach places like the Amazon in Brazil and the African Congo. He was currently helping the HM2U Foundation and Biometric Science Center in Vancouver, whose mission is to help the children and AIDS victims in underprivileged nations. His life was devoted to such causes and he was dedicated to loving and helping people. His parents, Gertrude Schubert and Horst Haese, preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Frederika Haese and his most beloved and proud son, Dr. Carl-Emanuel Edward Haese, as well as Kim Loera and family. Family, friends and patients, as well as thousands of others around the world, whom he inspired and whose lives and hearts he touched, will miss him, will celebrate his life, and will continue to care for the less fortunate in his honor. Public funeral services will be announced and held at a later date. PDF Printable Version
