Woodrow M. DeLany, 91, of Las Cruces and formerly of Spearfish, S.D., died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009. He was born May 25, 1918 in Lucas, S.D. Gregory County to Chauncy and Delia DeLany. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served his country honorably during WW II in the European Theater as a Pvt. 1st Class. After the war he came home to White River, S.D. where he and his wife Nina purchased some cattle and began ranching and farming. In 1967 Woodrow and Nina moved their family to Spearfish, S.D. where he was a Certified Lumber Grader at the Homestake Sawmill and also a parking guide with the Black Hills Passion Play. Woodrow will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by his children, Betty Pierce and husband Mike of Belen, NM, Judy Lindberg and husband Ray of Dell Rapids, S.D., Linda Mueller and husband Donald of Las Cruces, Carla Mahlen and husband DuWayne of Rapid City, S.D., Clara DeLany of Atteboro, MA and Lillian Dale of Las Cruces; sister Susan Kary of Parmalee, S.D. Also surviving him are his 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. His loving wife Nina, parents, son Clifford, grandson Michael, brothers Herman, Edsel, infant brother Maurice and sisters Esther, Laura and Katherine preceded Woodrow in death. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 at Morning Star United Methodist Church where Funeral Services will follow at 4 pm with Pastor John Moore officiating. A second visitation will be from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, S.D where a second funeral service will follow at 3 pm. Woodrow will be laid to rest at the family plot at Rose Hill Cemetery also in Spearfish, S.D. Pallbearers will be Lonnie Gingrich, DuWayne Mahlen Jr, Andrea Gray, Amber Dale, Adam Barrera and Jordan Lindberg. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mesilla Valley hospice, 299 E.
