Yolanda Angelina Vega, 80, of Las Cruces, NM died Sunday, April 5, 2020. Yolanda was born September 3, 1939 in Canutillo, TX to Salvador and Angela Alba. She grew up in Deming, NM where she had many friends, she graduated Deming High School, where she was named the nicest person in her senior class which is a testament to how much she was liked. Yolanda married Edward Vega on May 25, 1963 in Deming, NM. She worked for the Government at the Bureau of Land Management. She studied Realty and Natural Resources at Lands and Minerals School with Bureau of Land Management, which lead to her to be a Realty Specialist for BLM. With hard work and perseverance, she was promoted to the Assistant Area Manager for BLM in Carlsbad, NM where she eventually retired from her career. She received several accolades while employed with BLM and was well respected and liked by her peers and her teams she managed throughout her career. She had a zest for life and enjoyed so many things. She loved to watch football and was her brother's and grandson's biggest fan who played college football. She loved to go country western dancing, enjoyed the movies and loved to travel with her husband. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she made it special through worship, celebration, cooking and gifts for all her family. She loved to spend time with all her grandchildren more than anything and loved watching them participate in sports and other activities. She was a devoted wife who supported and promoted her husband's career all while working hard to achieve the most she could in her career. She was the most loving mother who would do everything to support her children and encouraged them to be the best they could be. She loved her family and friends and always made time for them. She was adventurous, brave and strong. She was honest, loyal and faithful. As a devoted Catholic, she used her faith to guide her through life and find comfort in the Lord and all his blessings. She loved like no other. She is survived by her husband of 57 years; Edward Vega, : Son Ron Vega and wife Teri Vega, daughter Selina Smelser & Husband Steve Kirby, Son-in law Ian Smelser; Grandchildren: Christopher Smelser, Geoffrey Smelser, Jacob Smelser, Jordyn Sallak, Jillian Sallak, Luca Bella Vega, Stephen Kirby and Spencer Kirby; Great grandchildren: Aurora Faith Smelser; and 22 Nephews and nieces not including their children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son David Vega. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 1:30pm on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at St. Albert the Great Newman Center, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 2:00pm with Fr. Alex Urena officiating. Burial will be at Gates of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Albuquerque, NM at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Vega, Christopher Smelser, Geoffrey Smelser, Jacob Smelser, Steve Kirby, Chris Alba A celebration of life party will be held at a later date due to the inability to gather from the Covid 19 virus. In Lieu of flowers the family is asking to submit donations to the Alzheimer's Association research foundation www.https://act.alz.org/site/Donation. Due to COVID-19, restrictions have been placed and limitation on capacity of attendees will be restricted, this will be private and not open to the public.
