Zelma Louise Lashway died on March 6, 2022, at the age of 86, from natural causes at her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was born on July 2, 1935, in Great Falls M.T. The second daughter of Grant and Grace Haugen. Zelma attended schools in Great Falls. As a youngster, she was a local "Jacks" Champion and a pretty good hopscotch player. During this time, she played flute with the Community Orchestra. Zelma became a very good seamstress. Zelma graduated from Great Falls High School in 1953. That fall she entered. St Olaf College, a private, liberal arts college in Northfield, Minnesota. Graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In the summer of 1956, while working at the Mountain State Fair, Administration Office. Zelma met Roy Lashway who was working that summer doing manual work around the fairgrounds. They were sufficiently taken with each other that after she graduated from college a year later, they were married in Bozeman MT on September 14, 1957. On March 31, 1959, she gave birth to her first child, a son, Calvin, and two years later, she gave birth to a second son, Clin, on April 25, 1961. In the Fall of 1965, Roy took a new job in Minnesota at Mankato State College, and Zelma became the office manager for the local Coca-Cola Bottling Co. During her years in Mankato, Zelma had the opportunity to serve as a Cub Scout Den Mother for Den 5. Zelma and the family enjoyed many summers at their lake cottage, on nearby Duck Lake. In early 1976, the family moved to Las Cruces, NM where Roy began a new job at New Mexico State University (NMSU). Zelma worked for the local Coca-Cola Co. before starting work at the NMSU business office and later as an Accounting Supervisor in the NMSU payroll department. Zelma and Roy both retired in August 1993. During their retirement, they spent a lot of time traveling with their Airstream trailer they called the "Bubble". Zelma decorated the interior of the "Bubble" with Coca-Cola memorabilia. Over the years, before and after retiring, Zelma enjoyed reading true crime novels. She was a member of St. Andrews Church in Las Cruces. Zelma is survived by her sister Greta Murray, sons; Calvin Lashway, Clin Lashway and his wife Paulette Gehrke Lashway, granddaughters; Stephanie Lashway and Nicole Lashway; sister-in-law Judy Kuntz, brother-in-law Don Lashway, and sister-in-law Betty Lashway. Zelma is preceded in death by her husband Roy; her parents Grant, and Grace Haugen; and her brother-in-law, Jack Murray. Funeral Service for Zelma will b held at St. Andres Episcopal Church Located at 518 N. Alameda Blvd. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 At 2:00pm.
