Amanda Nichole Avalos
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful daughter Amanda Nichole Avalos. Born on July 1, 1988 and entered into eternal rest on July 26, 2026. Amanda was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, auntie, niece and cousin. She was adored by all. Her greatest joy was her family. Amanda was a person who loved God and her faith.
Amanda was employed at Hatch Valley Public Schools for 15 years as an educational assistant, teacher, librarian, assistant girls’ soccer coach and recently an administrative assistant at Hatch Valley Middle School. She also worked many games as the announcer and score keeper for Volleyball, Basketball and any other occasion the school needed her. Amanda volunteered selfless hours to her community. She was involved in starting the Hatch Alumni FFA and the Hatch Chamber of Commerce and Chile Festival. Amanda received an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Dona Ana Community College in December of 2023 and her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Individualize Studies in Education December 13, 2025 from NMSU. She continued her education at Western New Mexico University for her Master in Secondary Education with certifications in ESL, Health, Psychology, and History. Amanda also shared her faith by teaching confirmation and always being there for anyone who needed a shoulder to lean on. Amanda’s hobbies were continuing her education, make-up, doing her nails, cake decorating, listening and singing to music, painting, watching soccer, and spending time with family.
Amanda gave her heart to all. She helped everyone she could without hesitation. She loved all the students of Hatch Valley Public Schools.
Amanda was preceded in death by her grandparents David Holguin Jr., Enrique and Carmen Avalos, great grandparents Eduardo and Corina Flores and David Holguin Sr., Beatriz, and Juanita Holguin.
Amanda is survived by her parents Henry and Beatrice Avalos, her brother Enrique and sister in law Samantha, her three nephews Ethan, Caleb, and Noah Avalos. Her Ita Dolores Holguin and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and her baby puppy Chewbaca Van Damm.
Serving as pallbearers will be Enrique, Ethan, Caleb and Noah Avalos, David, David Edward, and Michael Holguin, Joseph and Joshua McAllister, and Efren and Henry Duran
Services for Amanda will be held at Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church, 117 Hartman St. Hatch, New Mexico, Visitation Friday August 7, 2026 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday August 8, 2026 at 10:00am also at Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church. Burial will be at Garden of Memories, Hatch New Mexico
