Antonia R. Avelar, 77, lifelong resident of Las Cruces, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011. She was born Sept. 5, 1934 in Las Cruces. She was a member of St. Genevieve's Catholic Church and enjoyed the outdoors, camping, arts and crafts, music, dancing and going to casinos. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. Antonia is survived by her sons Ray Avelar and wife Bonnie of La Mesa, NM., Juan Avelar Jr. of Texas, Luis Avelar and wife Yolanda, Espiridion Avelar and wife Mary Jane and Tomas Avelar and wife Carmen all of Las Cruces; daughters Andrea Avelar of Bakersfield, CA., Margie Avelar and companion Robert Hofmo and Josie Avelar and companion Ron Morse all of Las Cruces; brothers Tony, Fernando, Ramon, David and Bobby Lara; sisters Adela Garcia and Mary Gonzalez. Also surviving her are 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Antonia was preceded in death by her loving husband Juan Avelar, grandson Damien Avelar and a brother Larry Romero. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 pm on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church where her prayer vigil will follow at 7 pm. Antonia's funeral mass to celebrate her life will be at 10 am on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 also at St. Genevieve's with Fr. Ricardo Bauza officiating. Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her loving husband. The honor of being a pallbearer goes to Rodolfo and Yang Lara, Fernando Romero, Vidal Bravo Jr., Michael, Orlando and Tomas Avelar Jr. PDF Printable Version
