Aurora V. Garcia passed away peacefully January 21, 2013. She was born September 19, 1938 in Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico to Ignacio and Teresa Ochoa Vasquez. Aurora came to Las Cruces as a young woman where she eagerly got her residency, began English classes, obtained her citizenship and attended night school to earn her high school diploma in 1982. She enjoyed a long career in food service with Luby's and the Las Cruces Public Schools. Aurora gained the respect and admiration of all those around her who witnessed her amazing dedication to work, friends and especially family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, John Garcia of the family home; two brothers, Ignacio of Saucillo, Chih., Jesus of Los Angeles, CA and one sister, Alicia and husband Gregorio "Monse" of Maircopa, AZ. Additional family members include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who were all very close to her. Aurora was preceded in death by two brothers, Quirino and Luis Carlos; three sisters, Quica, Lupe and Chela. Visitation for Aurora will be held today Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 from 6-7pm at Getz Funeral Home where the Prayer Vigil will follow beginning at 7pm. Mrs. Garcia's funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at 12noon at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Ricardo Bauza officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. The honor of being a pallbearer goes to Fermin and Ramiro Torres, Richard Duran, Mario Esparza, Jesus Vasquez Ochoa and Gilbert Mesa.
