Cleda B. Hawman passed away suddenly on August 4th at the age of 63. A life-long resident of Las Cruces, she was responsible for helping shape the minds of young people in the community as a teacher at Conlee Elementary for 31 years. After retiring in 1999, she undertook her second career as a small-business owner with The Truck Farm, a prominent local specialty foods company that she and her husband, Jim, started from scratch. Cleda was known for being both kind and fair. Her family came first, and she was always there when they needed her. In recent years, her greatest joys in life were her bi-annual trips with her three siblings and spending time with her grandchildren. Pondering a second retirement before her death, she had hoped to spend more time traveling and with her grandkids. Born to Lewell and Lucille Butler, she is survived by husband Jim; her son Steven Hawman and his wife DeeDee; her son Justin Hawman; her two grandchildren, Analiece and Anson Hawman, and siblings David Butler, John Butler, and Betty Butler and their families. A visitation will be held at Getz Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday August 9th, 2011. Memorial Services to celebrate her life will be on Wednesday August 10th, 2011 at 11 a.m. also at Getz Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Whitley officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Cowboys for Cancer Research, 575-524-0475 or www.cowboysforcancerresearch.org.
