David Mitchell Cox Profile Photo

David Mitchell Cox of Las Cruces, New Mexico, died on January 11, 2026, one week shy of his 90th birthday. He was born on January 17, 1936 in Piqua, Ohio. David grew up in Springfield, Ohio and graduated from Miami University in 1957 with a Bachelor's degree in Education. He then joined the Ohio National Guard and trained as a Medic for six months, followed by five and ½ years in the Ohio National Guard Reserve. In February of 1958, he began his teaching career by teaching Industrial Arts in the Columbus, Ohio Public School System for eight and ½ years, during which time he got married and had two children. In 1966, David and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where he became Director of Audio Visual Services at Sinclair Community College during which time he earned a Master’s Degree from Miami University in Educational Non-Print Media, and remained at the College until he retired in 1988. David was a single man by that time, and moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1991. There, he married Nancy Hutchcroft Cox in 1994 and that marriage lasted until his death. They shared the love of antique and clock collecting, traveling, British Car Club activities and enjoying friends. David's hobbies included collecting and restoring beautiful antique clocks, enjoying his show quality, signal red, 1956 Triumph TR-3 of which he was very proud, woodworking, ‘tinkering’ and fixing things, all kinds of things. David’s wooden boat was a highlight for him and he simply loved ‘tooling’ around Grand Lake near Presque Isle, Michigan, where his grandfather, George Reed pioneered one of the first homes, the Reed cottage, on the lake in 1919. David was preceded in death by his grandson, Aaron Michael Cox and survived by his loving wife Nancy, his two children, Kimberly and Brent, three grandsons and three great grandchildren.

His dear friends, whether in a car or clock club or new or old acquaintances, all speak of the value David added to their life and how they appreciated his integrity and friendship.
