Deborah Kay Nicholson

Deborah Kay Nicholson, lovingly known to so many as “Nana,” was born on February 21, 1959, in Roswell, New Mexico, and passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2026, at the age of 67.

Although she was born and raised in Roswell, Debbie spent the majority of her life in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where she built a life centered on love, family, and caring for others. To know Debbie was to know unconditional love. She was the most selfless, compassionate, and generous person, opening not only her home but also her heart to anyone in need. She never met a stranger, and anyone fortunate enough to know her quickly became family.

Above all else, Debbie’s greatest joy was her family. She was an incredible mother, but her favorite title was “Nana.” She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Whether she was baking something delicious in the kitchen, gathering everyone together for holidays, or simply enjoying everyday moments with the people she loved most, Debbie’s happiest place was surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Robert Stacy and Lucia Stacy.

Debbie is survived by her four children: Crystal Nicholson (Manny Maldonado), children Manuel Jr ,Meadow, Camilo and Maximo Maldonado; Monique Rocha (Chris Rocha), children Micah Nicholson, Jade Rocha, and Alijah Rocha; Danielle Nicholson (Raul Espino), children Jaron Espino, Raul Espino Jr., and Marqui Espino; and Mark Nicholson Jr. (Rachelle Day), son Treyton Nicholson. She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life.

She is also survived by her former husband and lifelong friend, Mark Nicholson, who remained one of her closest friends and a devoted presence in her life. Together, they raised four children and shared an unwavering love for their family.

She is also survived by her loving siblings; sister, Leslie Nord, and her brothers, Eddie Stacy, Danny Stacy, and Max Stacy, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were forever touched by her kindness and love.

Debbie’s sudden passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the countless memories she gave us, the lessons she taught us through her kindness, and the unconditional love she shared so freely. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and everyone whose life was made better because of her.

Though she is no longer with us, her love will continue to guide us every day. We will miss her more than words can express, but we are forever grateful to have been loved by such an extraordinary woman.

A public gathering and rosary will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Monday August 17, 2026 beginning at 5:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 10:00 am.  Burial will be held in Roswell, New Mexico on Monday August 24, 2026.
