Elizabeth "Betty" Louise Merritt

May 30, 1944 — May 3, 2025

Betty was born on May 30, 1944, in Roswell, NM to the late Ray and Doris Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Merritt and her daughter Kristi Grant, both in 2022.

Betty Miller and Bobby Merritt were married on December 16th, 1962, in Roswell, NM. They later moved to Alamogordo where their daughter Robin was born and shortly after to Las Cruces NM where they were blessed with a second daughter, Kristi and then son Ken.

Betty was employed in her early life at Farmers & Merchants Bank and Mountain Bell but left when she and Bobby joined the Sonic family in 1973. She helped Bobby with the business at the beginning but transitioned to be home full-time to support him and their children. Her love and support were a key reason that Bobby was so successful in endeavors, and she was his biggest cheerleader and support system.

Betty was a life member of the Memorial Center Auxiliary. She served as Past President of both the Memorial Medical Auxiliary and the New Mexico Hospital Auxiliary. The Auxiliary held a special place in her heart, and she continued to attend the Holiday gatherings when she was able.

Betty was known for a loving, compassionate nature and her ability to let any person know that they were always important to her. Her love for writing spanned all her adult life and she wrote many short stories for future generations to read and enjoy.

Betty is survived by her brother Mickey Miller (Janice), sisters Terri Jones(JP) and Kathi Henderson(Steve), daughter, Robin Stamnos(Michael Burke), son Ken Merritt (Wendy) grandchildren, Megan Gutierrez(Jeremy), Derek Stamnos (Bekka), Justin Stamnos, Ryan Burkett(Felicia), Elliott Burkett(Grace), Samantha Trojano (Mark), John Underwood, great grandchildren, Kasandra Navarrete, Blaine Weedman, Peyton Weedman, Jeremy Gutierrez, Arya Gutierrez, Frank Trojano, Aidree Gutierrez, Will Trojano and great-great grandchildren Easton and Elyjah Navarrete.
