Elizabeth Johnson

Elizabeth Johnson 1949 – 2026 

Elizabeth Johnson, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Bubbles,” of Las Cruces, passed away peacefully at her home on July 29, 2026, at the age of 77. She was born in 1949 to Henry Johnson and Teresa Miramontes. 

Elizabeth dedicated much of her life to helping and serving others. She began her career as a teacher, where she touched the lives of countless students through her patience, compassion, and dedication. She later continued her career with the Public Defender’s Office, where she worked until her retirement. Throughout her years of service, Elizabeth was committed to helping others and making a difference in the lives of those around her.

 Outside of her career, Elizabeth enjoyed the things that made life special. She had a true passion for music and dancing and also enjoyed traveling and spending time with the people she loved. Whether at home or surrounded by family and friends, Elizabeth knew how to enjoy life and create lasting memories. 

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Mario Borunda, a proud war veteran; her sons, Michael Morales (Julie) and Eric Morales (Yvette); her 11 grandchildren, Angel, Alex, Gabriel, Toni Marie, Marli Ann, Alea, Irene, Deanna, Dominique, Teresa, and Jovahna; her great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Henry Johnson, Oscar Johnson, Gilbert Salinas, and Sandra Gonzales. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Johnson and Teresa Miramontes. 

Elizabeth, lovingly known as Bubbles, will be remembered for her generosity, strength, compassion, and lifelong dedication to helping others. Her kindness, laughter, and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. 

A funeral service will be held at St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, her urn will be placed in the St. Genevieve’s Columbarium.
