Eric John Mattison, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 14th, at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was born March 1, 1956, in Hanover, NH, to Leo and Thelma (Kennedy) Mattison. He grew up in Manchester, VT, graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary in 1974 and attended Virginia Wesleyan University where he met his lifelong friend, Michael Mizell. When he was needed, he came home to take care of his mother.
Eric loved his gardens, vegetables and flowers, and was a true horticulturist in planning his garden beds. He spent hours landscaping his yard and planting flowers everywhere.
Eric was employed by The Northshire Bookstore in Shipping and Receiving, and later at Bromley Mountain as an Accounts Receivable Specialist.
Eric was an avid skier, a passionate cook, and a fierce Scrabble player. He loved his many cats and dogs. Traveling was a favorite pastime, and he traveled far and wide.
He moved to Arizona with longtime friends Michael and Shannon Mizell and later to New Mexico.
Eric was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Thelma (Kennedy) Mattison; his brother, Jesse, Jesse’s wife Kathryn (“Boots”), sisters Patricia Kitchen and Beverly Gallett, nephew Eric Gallett and his childhood friend and neighbor, Russell Ross. He is survived by his little sister, Martina (Tina Kitchen) Mattison; nephew, Stephen P. Mattison (Sarah); niece Gail (Mattison) Whitehouse (Steven J,); niece Natasha Gallett Wilcox Weyer and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to a humane society of your choice.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
