Esther Holguin, of Vado, New Mexico, passed away surrounded by love on January 23, 2026. She was 65 years old. Esther was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a cherished grandmother. She was known for her kindness and thoughtfulness, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her gentle spirit, warmth, and compassion touched everyone who knew her.
Born October 20, 1960 in Las Cruces, NM, Esther was the youngest of 7 children of Cornelio and Maria Holguin. Her and her siblings Jose Holguin, Elva Jimenez, Rachel Valdespino, Cornelio Holguin Jr, Judy Contreras, and Johnny Holguin grew up in Anthony, NM.
She was a dedicated and loving wife to her husband, Ricardo Holguin, and a proud, nurturing mother to her children: Ricardo Christopher Holguin; Nicole Flores (Armando Flores) and Monique Munoz (Freddy Munoz); and Francine Holguin. Family was the center of Esther’s life, and she found her greatest joy in caring for and raising her children.
Motherhood brought Esther immense joy, but becoming a grandmother filled her heart in a special and profound way. She adored her grandchildren, Alexis and Amelia Flores, and Aria and Aidric Munoz, and treasured every moment spent with them. She loved playing, singing, and dancing with them, cheering them on at their games, and proudly attending their performances. Her presence, encouragement, and unconditional love made each grandchild feel deeply seen and supported.
After her children were grown, Esther worked for Gadsden Independent School District (GISD), where she found deep fulfillment and purpose. She truly enjoyed working with children and had a natural gift for making them feel safe, cared for, and valued. Her patience, kindness, and gentle presence left a lasting impact on the many students and families she served.
Esther was a woman of faith and found comfort and joy in attending church. Her faith guided her life and was reflected in the love, compassion, and grace she showed to others. Esther’s legacy of love, strength, and selflessness will continue to live on through her family and all those whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. We take comfort in knowing she is now at peace, resting in God’s eternal love.
