Georgena Jane Skipper passed at age 89 on Wednesday May 20, 2026 in Las Cruces, New Mexico at home. She was born July 21, 1936 in Parker, Co. Her parents were William and Katie Quick. She had two brothers and two sisters, Rhoda, Calvin, Harry, and Mima. Married to Hollis E. Skipper May 29, 1955 in Denver, Co. They met while Hollis was serving in the U.S. Air Force. Georgena was blessed with three sons Vernon, Carl, and Jeff.
Georgena is survived by her husband, her sons, her sister Mima, five grandchildren Crystal, Erin, Elijah, Zachary, and Jacob, eight great grandchildren Dax, Louisa, Eloise, Henry, Everett, Atlas, Jethro, and Olivia. Georgena was honored with a VIP invitation to witness the historic Apollo 11 launch of the lunar landing on July 16, 1969 at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Caneveral, Fla. Georgena’s deep affection for children was unmistakeable, as demonstrated by her dedication to helping and teaching young learners in both grade school and Sunday school settings. Her commitment went beyond simple instruction; Georgena consistently fostered a nurturing and supportive environment, assuring each child felt valued and encouraged. Through her involvement, Georgena positively influenced countless lives, leaving a lasting impact on the children she guided and mentored.
Services are Tuesday May 26, 2026 at 12:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Las Cruces, N.M. officiated by Pastor David Burrows. Burial will follow at 2:30 pm at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
