Gerald Alan Eberwein

Gerald Alan Eberwein was born in Rochester, New York on December 10, 1934, to Hazel (née Burgess) and Albert Eberwein. After his mother remarried Peter Nudo, Jerry remained their only child.

Known for his sharp wit, Jerry often found that his sense of humor both landed him in predicaments and helped him get out of them during his younger years. While in high school, he worked at a local radio station. When the regular DJ was absent one day, Jerry was asked to step in and did so well that he continued working part-time as a DJ.

Jerry’s fascination with electronics and telecommunications began early. He built a ham radio system in his room, complete with an outdoor antenna, and was so protective of his setup that he didn’t allow anyone else in for fear they might disturb it.

He carried this passion for technology into his military career. While serving in the Army, Jerry had the opportunity to fly on Air Force One with President John F. Kennedy on several occasions. He used his expertise in electronics during two tours in Vietnam and played a pivotal role in creating the 911 emergency system for southern Arizona — a project that spanned several years and became one of his proudest accomplishments.

As the family’s unofficial genealogist, Jerry delved deeply into his ancestry. He visited Ireland, researched old library archives, explored historic cemeteries, examined family histories, and toured former family homes. Through these efforts, he uncovered connections ranging from Ireland’s IRA to the 13th President of the United States, Millard Fillmore.

Jerry was devoted to his family and friends, always willing to lend a hand, whether quietly or by expressing his opinions. His life was dedicated to service: he was a retired veteran, a member of the Arizona Rangers, a policeman in Bisbee, and served as Fire Chief for the Naco Fire Department.

He enjoyed reading about American history and was outspoken about his conservative beliefs. Jerry was also a devoted Green Bay Packers fan, proudly wearing his Packers jacket until it was misplaced.

Jerry’s faith was central to his life. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for over five decades, he took pride in every role he was given and formed many meaningful relationships through the church.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone who cared for Jerry, including Jesse, Annabele, Kathy, and the Hospice teams in Sierra Vista and Las Cruces, New Mexico.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on November 8, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 611 W. Melody Lane in Bisbee, Arizona. Interment will take place at 8:30 AM on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 S. Buffalo Soldier Trail, Fort Huachuca.
