Gerald "Jerry" Holmes

Gerald "Jerry" Holmes passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026 in Las Cruces, NM surrounded by his family.

Jerry was born in Minnesota and graduated from NMSU with a degree in mechanical engineering.

He served as an Officer in the Army in Germany prior to returning to Las Cruces where he began his career at the Physical Science Laboratory at NMSU.

He met his wife Barbara at the Naval Base in Argentia, Newfoundland while he was managing a satellite tracking station.

His work travels brought him to many continents including Antarctica.

Jerry's faith was an important part of his life. He was an active and dedicated parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church and served on the Pastoral Council.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, having lunch with friends, playing card games and cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughters Shannon and Kathy, and his sister Nancy.

He is preceded in death by his father Maurice, his mother Verna, and his brother Steve.

Jerry will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

The memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Friday, February 6th at 10AM.
