Glen Horton

Glen E. Horton, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community servant, passed away peacefully on Aug 31st, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication. Born on January 29, 1929, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Arthur T. Horton and Odessa Johnson, Glen lived a rich and purposeful life, touching the hearts of all who knew him.

Glen pursued his passion for agriculture at Eastern New Mexico University before earning a degree in Agronomy from New Mexico State University (NMSU) in 1958. His career with the New Mexico Department of Agriculture began in Roswell, where he served as an inspector for the Division of Plant Industry from 1959 to 1964. In 1964, he was appointed Division Chief of Feed, Seed, and Fertilizer, a role in which he excelled. Glen’s leadership extended nationally as he proudly served as president of the National Plant/Food Control Officials from 1981 to 1982. Alongside his public service, Glen ran a successful pest control business for 40 years, continuing it after his retirement from NMSU in 1984. In 2001, he stepped back to embrace his love for fishing, hunting, and traveling, savoring life’s simple joys.

Glen was a man of faith and a member of his local church community. At Westside Baptist Church, he served briefly as Sunday School Superintendent, where his humorous announcements were fondly remembered. He was also a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, contributing to its early days by helping lay the sidewalks.

Glen served in the United States Air Force from 1947 to 1953, including time stationed in Germany during the Korean War, fulfilling his duty with honor.

Above all, Glen was a family man. He shared 44 beautiful years with his beloved wife, Cindy Horton. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Huey of Peoria, Arizona; sons Tom Horton of College Station, Texas, and Charles Horton of Wilton Manor, Florida; stepdaughter Kerri Provencio and her husband Robert Sandoval of San Antonio, Texas; and stepson Caleb Provencio and his wife Michelle of Monument, Colorado. Glen’s warmth extended to his grandchildren: granddaughters Jessica Brunk (and her husband Mark), Delanie Horton, and Jamie Horton; grandsons Donnie Glen Horton, Jake Provencio, and Ben Provencio; and great-granddaughter Logan Moreno. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Peggy June Horton and Orchid Lievsay.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur T. Horton and Odessa Johnson, his sisters Mary Nell and Rozella Lagmay, and his brothers Doyle Horton and Elvin Horton.

Glen’s humor, generosity, and love for life will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. His memory is a blessing, and his legacy endures through the countless lives he touched.

The family wishes to thank the medical staff at Mountain View Hospital and La Posada assisted living and hospice for the great care attention given to Glen and family during this final days.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 12, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Getz Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church 1800 S. Locust Dr. Las Cruces NM 88001.
