Helen Irene Peterson passed away at the age of 88 on January 20, 2014. She was residing at Mesilla Valley Hospice at the time of her death. Helen was born on September 30, 1925 in Addison, Michigan to Ervie and Carrie Rowlson. Helen was the fourth child of Ervie and Carrie having three older brothers, Cleo Rowlson, Kenneth Rowlson, and Donald Rowlson as well as a younger brother, Dale Rowlson and a younger sister, Wanda Sebring. In February 1944, she married her only sweetheart, Richard (Dick) Peterson. When Richard was serving in Italy during the WWII, she moved to Jackson, Michigan living with other young women that worked in factories during the war effort. When he returned home, they settled in Addison, where they started their family, a daughter, Marjorie and Son, Rick. In 1960, they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, seeking a warmer climate. Helen worked at the FW Woolworth store that was on North Main in Las Cruces. She worked there from 1961 until its closing. After that, she went to work at The White House Department Store when it was at the Loretto Mall. When the White House went out of business, she managed Stitches of NM at the Mesilla Valley Mall. After retiring, she became an avid reader. She would only purchase a book if it had small print. She didn't feel that she got her moneys worth if the print was large as she would read it too fast. She was fond of the University of Michigan Wolverines. Magic Johnson was her favorite basketball player and Tom Brady of the Patriots her favorite football player as they bad both played fro Michigan. Helen is survived by her brother, Dale Rowlson (Norma Clark) of Lake Havasu, AZ., her daughter, Marjorie(Robert) Kord of Las Cruces, her son, Rick Peterson of Las Cruces, grandsons, Robb Kord of Las Cruces, Brian (Amy) Kord of Las Cruces, great granddaughters, Shelby Kord and Sophie Kord as well as sisters in law, Virginia Webster of Hudson, Michigan, Evelyn Bradstreet of Jackson, Michigan, Kay Peterson of Hudson, Michigan, brothers in law Robert Peterson of Las Cruces and Russell Sebring of Bradenton, Florida.
