Henry C. Davila 82, joined the Lord and eternal life surrounded by family on July 11, 2024, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. He was born on October 24, 1941, in Las Cruces New Mexico; a son of Avelina Costales and Jose Angel Davila. Henry was a graduate of Las Cruces High School Class of 1960. Henry loved growing up in Las Cruces and would recount many stories with his siblings and cousins. Particularly how he shoe-shined to earn money to watch movies at the local Rio Grande Theater. Henry’s hobbies included a collection of coins and baseball cards. He enjoyed his latter days by spending time on crossword puzzles and listening to his collection of 50’s and 60’s rock n’ roll CDs.
Henry served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Vietnam War. He was a retiree of the Las Cruces Public Schools where he worked as a custodian for 27 years. He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in his church as a librarian and Food Pantry worker. He was a man of skill, and together with his wife and others, built the home that he would reside in and raise his family. Throughout the years he would continue to build additions to the house. He was married for 46 years to his faithful and caring wife Maria Refugio Reyes-Gonzales. He and his wife met in Las Cruces and were Married for time and eternity on June 28, 1977.
Henry is survived by his wife Maria Refugio Davila. His sons Martin, Michael, and Christopher Davila. His daughter-in-law Hang (Aby) Nguyen-Davila and Grandchild Ruben Davila. Henry’s wife and sons Martin and Christopher currently reside in Las Cruces NM. His son Micheal, daughter-in-law, and grandchild reside in San Diego California. He also leaves behind brothers Joe and Santiago (Jimmy) Davila; and sister Irene Mochen.
He is preceded in death by his parents Avelina Costales and Jose A. Davila. His mother was laid to rest on September 10, 1953, and his father on August 06, 1979.
A public viewing will be from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at The LDS Venus chapel 3210 Venus Street Las Cruces, NM 88012 on Tuesday July 30, 2024,the funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM, also at the Venus chapel. The officiant for the service will be Kimball Clayton Hakes of Hakes Brothers Construction, who has been a longtime friend of the family. Henry’s body will be laid to rest at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 5140 W Picacho Ave in Las Cruces NM after the funeral proceedings on Tuesday July 30, 2024.
Pallbearers will include Henry’s sons Martin, Michael, and Christopher Davila. Henry’s brother Jim Davila, nephew Gabe Davila, and Henry’s brother-in-law David Mochen. Brother Joe Arnold Davila will be an honorary pallbearer. After the burial services, a reception for the family will be held at the Venus Chapel for all the family members that attend the funeral.
