Herbert W Cosgrove

Herbert Winfield Cosgrove, 102 years of age, of Las Cruces, NM, died Sunday July 24, 2011, at Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by family and friends. Herb was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle who will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was born May 21, 1909, in Newark, NJ to Louise and Robert Cosgrove. On July 1, 1938, he married Selma Antoinette Bestle, who died September 6, 2006. He was predeceased by his sister; Hazel Schurr. Herb was hired by Bell Telephone Laboratories as a draftsman in the late 1930s and was promoted through the years, retiring as a department head in the late 1960s. He and Selma travelled throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico with their Airstream trailer making many friends along the way. He is survived by his son Bob Cosgrove of Silver City, NM; son and daughter-in-law Allen and Gretchen Cosgrove of Cobleskill, NY; granddaughter Caprice and husband Lee Garvin; grandson Brian Cosgrove and wife Becky; and great-grandchildren Nicholas and Katie Cosgrove. He is also survived by niece Nancy and husband Frank Jenkins and other family members Linda and Fred Hurd, Rob and Kelly Hurd, Becky Hurd and Mike Joseph, and Zeke Leyva as well as family friend Tim Schlie.A memorial services to celebrate his life were held at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 518 N. Alameda, Las Cruces, NM on Saturday, August 13th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Herb's name to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E.
