Jack Garrett was born on July 23, 1945, in Denver, Colorado, to Jack Raines Garrett, his father, and Fiorella Miklen Diminnis, his mother.

He married Joanne Mauck on June 3, 2022.

Jack joined the Army at age 17 and served for 21 years. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam. He also served in Germany. He was an Airborne Ranger and received a diploma from the 75th Ranger Regiment, Recondo School.

Jack was awarded a Silver Cross, Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and three Meritorious Medals as well as the Army Commendation Award. He retired as a Master Sargent. Jack was also a 1st Degree Black Belt in Kempo Karate.

After Jack retired from the Army, he managed a ranch in Montana. He then decided to get a degree in IT and worked for the Texas Department of Health for 25 years.

Jack is survived by his wife, Joanne Mauck, of Las Cruces, NM, Shane Garrett, son, spouse Karen Chen, and the “apple of his eye”, Ethan Parker Garrett, Grandson, of Colorado. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Shirley Swetnam, and brother-in-law, Duane Smith, his nephew, Todd Swetnam, his niece, Lolita Swetnam, his nephew, Craig Mauck, and his friends, Kent and Diane Switzer.

A memorial service will be held on June 26 at 10:00 am at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 225 West Griggs Ave., Las Cruces, NM.

A luncheon will be served after the service at St. Paul’s Methodist Church.
