Our beloved, funny Jeff unexpectedly went to heaven on April 11, 2025 at the age of 62.
He was born February 14, 1963 to Beverly and Jack Wood in Denver Colorado. He graduated from Douglas County High School in 1981 and then went on to attend and graduate from Wyoming Tech.
Jeff is survived by his wife Kathy, their children Kelly Tatro (John), Annie Harris (Trevor) and two granddaughters Camilla and Lyla Harris. Jeff is also survived by his mother Beverly Wood, brother David Wood (Carla) and many nieces and nephews. Jeff was preceded in death by his father Jack Wood.
Jeff had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke. He had a variety of hobbies, some of which included riding dirt bikes, rock crawling in his Jeep, camping, sitting on a beach, and especially remodeling vintage cars. He loved being in the mountains and spent a lot of time at his cabin in High Rolls, New Mexico. It was truly his happy place.
His whole life Jeff cherished his family. Jeff loved his wife and supported and encouraged her pursuits even bragging on her not so perfect carpentry skills. He was a wonderful father who could always be counted on for good advice, encouragement, and nurturing, and it continued even when they were adults. He loved spending time with his girls, whether dragging them around behind a boat, teaching them to drive a jeep, teaching them to weld in his shop or visiting new places together. Jeff was very proud of his two son-in-laws. He always said he lucked out when it came to the fine men his daughters chose. Jeff and his mother also had a very special loving bond. They had a lot of fun exploring, laughing and sharing time together. He took his responsibility to care for her very seriously. He was truly a big brother to David too. His love for him ran deep. He really looked forward to the times when his brother came to town to spend time with him working on old car projects. He adored his two granddaughters and the best part of his day was when he received videos or calls from them. We will all miss him dearly.
During his career Jeff made many lifelong friends. He owned and operated several businesses which included Wood’s Truck Shop, Mule Barn 4x4 and Fire Fighter Trucks. Jeff had recently sold and retired from Firefighter trucks.
A memorial service celebrating Jeff’s life will be held May 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Getz Funeral Home 1410 East Bowman Ave in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
