Our favorite grandfather, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, JOHN F. HERRERA, 69, of Las Cruces entered eternal life on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at his home, surrounded by loving friends and family. He was born to Juan and Dalila Herrera on April 17, 1952 in Pecos, TX. He attended and set track and field records at Lynn Junior High and Las Cruces High School, even receiving a Presidential Fitness Award. Johnny also discovered his gift and life-long passion, guitar, at Lynn Middle School. He retired from the City of Las Cruces Gas Department, and dearly cherished his crew. Johnny was a family man above all things, truly cherishing the smiles on the faces he loved. The greatest joys in his life were his only child, grandsons, and those that adopted him as Dad and Grandpa Johnny. He adored his innumerable relatives equally. He was loving and kind to people of all walks of life, no matter their background or appearance. He was a strong man with a strong mind, comparable to a living encyclopedia. John endured much pain with a smile, enjoying the small blessings in life. John is survived by his daughter Jahney Rae Herrera, and loving grandsons, Brian and Corban Herrera, of Las Cruces. Many other loving survivors include his sister Dalila Aragon and husband Nick Aragon, nephews EricAragon and Nicholas Aragon, nieces Michelle and Tamara Aragon, three great-nephews, four great-nieces, two great-great nieces, and an abundance of friends and relatives. He was preceded in death and received in eternal life by his Mother and Father, Juanito and Dalila Herrera, his great-niece Ariana Mercedes Dalila Aragon, as well as a multitude of relatives and close friends. Johnny's Funeral Mass will be special. It coincides with the Feast of Annunciation Supplication from Pope Francis. An Act of Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral will occur before the Funeral Mass March 25th, 2022 10:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral (1240 S. Espina St. Las Cruces, NM 88001), followed by inurnment from 11:30 - 12:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Reception will be at 12:00 noon at Celebrate Party Hall & Event Center at 522 E. Idaho Ave. Suite B. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jessi Joy Aragon, Cheyenne Bounds, Corban Herrera, Brian Herrera, Kevin Gurinski, Craig Redding, and Mattias Maez.
